Baby Hats!

Today, I went to Target with Jenn. We were in the baby section, and I was talking about how Luke and I wanted to present the baby to the family for the first time in a hat that gave away the sex of the baby (pink for girl, blue for boy). They didn't have a wide selection of knit baby hats at Target, so I got online when I got home and started searching. I found some, anywhere from $5-$15 each, and given that I would need to have two, one for either possibility, I wasn't too keen on spending that kind of money.

A blog article came up in the search about how to make a hat out of an old T-shirt. I have a lot of old T-shirts I have been saving for a quilt, so I decided to try it. I took my Wes-Del Has-Been cheerleading camp t-shirt and my first AOII bid day t-shirt and made them into cute little hats!

For extra style, I attached a bow to the pink one so that Noelle, if we have a Noelle, can be girly and frilly from the start.
Here's the link of the blog where I found this idea. Cute, cheap, and fun! (very easy, too!)

Baby Quilt

I got a sewing machine for Christmas, and I decided on Monday afternoon that I wanted to do a baby quilt. I bought a book, tools, and great fabric, and I began working on it! A couple hours in, I was really on a roll, and I just couldn't stop!

By Tuesday evening, it was finished. It was really fun and rewarding to do something like that. I can't wait to see my little one playing on it! I tried to make it as gender neutral as possible.

It's not perfect, but it came from me, so I think it will be special for our baby!

Feeling Crafty

With Luke's massive amount of studying, I have had to really dig deep to occupy myself so as not to bother him every 5 minutes. Today, I completed two projects.

My first one was to spray paint a series of old, gross frames from my mom and dad. I am wanting to do a picture frame wall in the office, and instead of buying new frames and spending boat loads of money, I just took the frames off my parents' hands and primed and painted them. I used a pretty moss green color, and then finished them with a clear matte top coat. They turned out really well, and I am excited to decide which pictures will be displayed. I am thinking black and white pictures so they stand out of the green frames.
Before: UGLY

Priming

After: Green!!!

My second project was creating a piece of art for our guest bathroom wall. We have had a blank wall in there since we re-did the room in January. I wanted a modern look, again, without spending a lot of money. While at Michael's today getting more spray paint, I found a set of 16x20 stretched canvases (2) for $5.99! What a steal! I then bought yellow ribbon...one satin and one grosgrain. I also got a pretty green decorative ribbon with white flowers. I wove the two different textures of ribbons together and stapled them to the back of the canvas. I then put the green ribbon around the top just to add some interest and tie in the colors of the bathroom. I am really excited to hang it up and see how it looks!
